Design Your Lifestyle
Douglas Weiss has been in the design industry since 1992 and founded Douglas Weiss Interiors in 1996. For Weiss, a Vancouver native and former professional ballet dancer, the principal challenge of interior design is combining contemporary lifestyles with elements of the past into rooms that are warm, comfortable and timeless – a style he refers to as “new traditional.” Quality and sophistication – including rich colors, an expert eye on scale, distinctive textures and exceptional craftsmanship – are the hallmarks of his style.
According to Doug,
“I always advise clients to stay clear of trends; although I think we’re all affected by design evolution. I like to start with a classical balance of symmetry and proportion, and then add an updated perspective of color and texture. The function of a room is essential: Can the design of any particular room enhance its function, with a sense of personal style?”
Douglas Weiss participated in the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2008 Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House; the 2001 Childkind’s Holiday House; the 2004 Alliance Children’s Theater Christmas Show House; the DIFFA 2002, 2005 and 2007 “Dining by Design,” and the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles 2008 Christmas Show House. His kitchen was featured in the 2006 Atlanta Jr. League’s kitchen tour. His work has also been featured on television’s House Smart with Lynette Jennings, on the DIY channel’s Lighting Design, in The Atlanta Home Book, and in the Atlanta Design Index.
The Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) nominated Douglas Weiss for Designer of the Year in 2004.
